Lead uppercut
Take this slowly, stay balanced, and ask your coach when something feels unclear.
number
5
stance note
Thrown with the lead hand, the “five”. A short punch for close range.
weight transfer
A small dip through the knees and a drive back up, with the hips turning as the punch rises.
hand path
Palm facing you, elbow tucked, the fist travelling upward in a short line. The travel is much smaller than beginners expect.
chin and guard
The rear hand stays high, and you stay upright rather than leaning in behind the punch.
common mistake
Dropping the hand low to load the punch, which telegraphs it and drops your guard at close range.
one cue
Drive with the legs, not the arm.
