A short, bent-arm punch from your lead hand that travels in a horizontal arc. The elbow stays roughly level with the fist and the whole body turns into it.

“Hook off the jab” means throw the jab, then turn straight into the hook.
why it matters
It lands on the side of a target that a straight punch cannot reach, which is why it so often follows a straight punch.
common mistake
Swinging from the shoulder with a straight arm, which loses all the power and leaves you off balance.
