Cross

Take this slowly, stay balanced, and ask your coach when something feels unclear.

category

punches

plain english

The straight punch from your rear hand, called the “two”. Your back foot pivots, your hips turn, and the punch travels across your body in a straight line.

example

“Sit down on the cross” means use your legs and hips rather than only your arm.

why it matters

It is your longest, heaviest straight punch, and learning to turn the back foot with it is the first real lesson in where power comes from.

common mistake

Leaving the back heel flat, so the punch is all arm and the shoulders end up square.
